This is the relation between identity and violence
This is the connection among character and viciousness This is the connection among character and viciousness There is nothing but bad mark to depict Jiddu Krishnamurti, and that is maybe how it ought to be.In his initial life, he was prepped by the Theosophical Society (a strict development) to become what they called the World Teacher. As he developed, be that as it may, Krishnamurti restored all gifts and broke down the gathering to move away from all ideological affiliations. For decades, he ventured to the far corners of the planet giving talks about human brain research, social change, and the significance of understanding the psyche as people as opposed to through authority. Some individuals think of him as a strict pioneer, yet given the advanced implication of the term, that is not precise. Others allude to him as a spiritualist, which is maybe a superior mark, yet all things considered, it doesn't feel total. Considering him a characteristic scholar would ostensibly be most apt.The thing about Krishnamurti is that he had a method of conveying the theoretical in such an infiltrating w ay, that it would stun you into reconsidering something you thought you knew.He had a ton to state about the idea of the human psyche and its connection to the world, however the vast majority of all, he made it plentifully certain that regardless of what he stated, it ought not be taken as truth. Just you, the individual, can arrive at that resolution dependent on your own inquiry.Similarly, as his methodology demonstrates, he questioned all marks and differentiations between individuals. Furthermore, in his standard way, he demonstrated the rationale of this with something he once partook in a lecture:When you consider yourself an Indian or a Muslim or a Christian or an European, or whatever else, you are being vicious. Do you see why it is savage? Since you are isolating yourself from the remainder of humankind. At the point when you separate yourself by conviction, by nationality, by custom, it breeds savagery. So a man who is trying to comprehend savagery doesn't have a place w ith any nation, to any religion, to any ideological group or fractional framework; he is worried about the absolute comprehension of mankind. The Catch 22 of living ideologicallyThere are two sensible approaches to react to this case by Krishnamurti: the first is to assembled the pieces and see that, indeed, at a center level, personality and brutality are associated; the second is to, once more, see that, yet contend regardless of whether it is valid, these divisions are necessary. What you can't state, in any case, is that this case is bogus, in light of the fact that so as to have viciousness, you need qualifications, and most savagery is conceived from the ideological differentiations we create. If you take a long perspective on history, through the span of a large number of years, each significant clash can be brought down to an ideological skirmish of us versus them. All the more strangely? Pretty much every side will have asserted that their side is doing the correct thing.Every body feels that they remain against something â" something terrible â" regardless of whether that be the malice showed by the fallen angel or the bad form that they see perpetrated by others in the world. What begins as respectable, in any case, gets blurred by marks and silly innate affiliations that we start to treat as realities, something that we certainly expect to be joined to some target some portion of the real world, a procedure which at that point gives us the ethical high-ground to carry out atrocities. It's anything but difficult to contend â" in principle â" that it's innocuous to append a solid national alliance to what your identity is, or to gladly and intensely wear your conviction framework as a symbol of respect, and for your situation, it likely could be innocuous, yet the more extensive wonders â" practically speaking â" is never harmless. At the day's end, people are creatures; exceptionally developed creatures, yet creatures in any case. That implies that t hese personalities (borne from our inborn affiliations) are a piece of our nature. But to deny you are not taking part in viciousness, anyway roundabout, because of your ideological affiliation is to acquit yourself when you don't reserve the option to vindicate yourself. You can even guarantee an ethical high-ground and state that this degree of brutality is essential on the grounds that the opposite side is awful, yet in the event that you investigate history, you'll see that the insignificant marking of individuals, paying little mind to great and terrible, has prompted more enduring on the planet than the real awful dedicated by the individuals you are so intensely against.A progressively coordinated understandingThis thinking can appear to be negative, and it can prompt a distorted idea of what things like equity and profound quality are, however there is an answer; at any rate an incomplete one, if that is your concern. This arrangement stows away in two or three terms obtained f rom the investigation of game hypothesis: lose-lose situations and constructive total games. The previous are serious, while the last are cooperative. In a universe of hard personality names, you can't resist the urge to play a lose-lose situation, where the objective is for you to win and the opposite side to lose; where you are the hero overcoming the awful guy.If you get rid of marks that characterize your personality, and rather comprehend that various individuals have diverse life accounts, formed by various hereditary and ecological variables, you can attempt to adjust your two distinctive abstract universes by playing a constructive whole game.It may be genuine that it's in our temperament to be inborn, along these lines personality differentiations, here and there, are not something we can totally dispose of, and yet, we have additionally developed to participate, and on the off chance that we change the limit of who we remember for our clan from just us who are against them to just everybody, it's not unfathomable that we find solid solutions. When we think in personalities, we make a one-dimensional world. We diminish the unpredictability of the universe down to something we can without much of a stretch fold our head over. This has its utilization, however it prompts bogus polarities of good and awful, us and them, and right and wrong.Reality, obviously, has a bigger number of measurements than only one, and when managing it, we can't think in divisions, in light of the fact that these divisions don't exist. There is no unbending separation. When you are contending on the web, the most ideal approach to depict who you are conversing with in this one-dimensional world likely could be liberal or preservationist or American or Chinese, yet in actuality, they are much the same as you; individuals with families, companions, doing as well as can be expected to get by.A world in which we just play constructive aggregate games, where each player picks up somet hing, may not yet be a world close enough, however in any event focusing on a progressively incorporated comprehension of various individuals and their truths is without a doubt a superior arrangement than the violence. The takeawayThere is no simple method to sum up what Krishnamurti found on the planet or what his vision of things to come was, yet one thing is clear: he realized that social change starts with an individual. Before you are a mark, you are an individual, much the same as whoever it is that fills in as a rival to your picked name. Any gatherings or philosophies that opposite this differentiation make violence.Almost everyone has a type of a connection to an a personality that complies with summed up rules of activity. In any event, when we don't unequivocally state it, we do regularly live it.For the most part, these personalities and connections are innocuous, yet that doesn't imply that we are exculpated from the second and third-request impacts that appear on the sc ene since we like the solace and the pride and the network that accompanies making distinctions. And while it's enticing to imagine that your philosophy is the correct one, the one that ought to be authorized on others, the odds are that this conviction is borne more from a conceit you are not even mindful of than the way that you have a goal, moral high-ground.There is no real way to escape this lose-lose situation in the event that you start from a place of setting up polarities. The best way to genuinely win is to comprehend: What makes others not the same as you? What social powers would you say you are not representing? How improve incorporate each side?None of this is to state that distinctions, chains of importance, and differentiations or the like don't exist in reality. Nor is the point to propose that it's completely possible to drop all nationalities, religions, and inborn limits tomorrow so we can out of nowhere live in a universe of peace. The point is just that we genera lly have a decision: Do we keep taking the path of least resistance, playing lose-lose situations, or do we put forth a genuine attempt to make positive-entirety games?Want to think and live more astute? Learn2Serve vs ServSafe: Core Course Offerings Both Learn2Serve and ServSafe offer the most common food and beverage courses for employers like restaurants and bars. Learn2Serve also offers tobacco and cannabis regulatory courses, making it a one-stop solution for employers like convenience stores, liquor stores, and dispensaries, as well. Course Type Learn2Serve ServSafe Food Handler Food Manager Alcohol Seller/Server Allergen Tobacco Cannabis Both training providers have wide-spread approval from regulatory agencies across the country. Neither Learn2Serve nor ServSafe are accepted everywhere for everything. Sometimes both are approved, sometimes only one is approved, and sometimes neither is approved. The most important step in choosing a provider is finding out who is acceptable where you work, but training requirements vary by state, county, or even city. It can get confusing. Thats why we put together state-by-state guides for Food Handler, Food Manager, and Alcohol Seller/Server training regulations. Its a great starting place to learn local requirements, accurate sources for information, and how to find an approved provider. Learn2Serve vs ServSafe: Course Format Another difference between the two companies is the format. Learn2Serve specializes in online courses â" the goal is to help you complete your certification entirely online. In fact, Learn2Serve is the only ANSI-recognized Certified Food Protection Manager (CFPM) program that allows online proctoring for your final certification exam. Formats Learn2Serve ServSafe Course Formats Online only Online and/or Instructor-Led (varies) Online Exam Proctoring (for ANSI-CFPM) (in-person only) ServSafe also offers online courses in most locations â" though your ANSI-CFPM exam will have to be proctored in person. The biggest advantage of ServSafe, however, is that they offer in-person instruction in many places, as well. If a classroom experience is important to you (or if your jurisdiction doesnt accept online training), theyre an excellent choice. Learn2Serve vs ServSafe: Cost Both ServSafe and Learn2Serve have reasonable pricing for the industry, as well as excellent value. Costs vary by location, but Learn2Serve does tend to have lower prices or more applicable discounts than ServSafes online courses. Thats true for both individual courses and enterprise bulk purchasing. Also, keep in mind that classroom certifications will always cost more than online training. Learn2Serve vs ServSafe: Business Solutions Both Learn2Serve and ServSafe offer some degree of employer-level purchasing and management. But because Learn2Serve has a parent company with online compliance training that spans multiple industries (360training), were able to offer a larger course catalog and more sophisticated enterprise solutions. For example, enterprise partners get dedicated account management to help you meet your training goals and compliance needs. You can use 360trainings LMS or take the courses to your own. You can generate in-depth reports from executive-level overviews down to individual progress tracking. Learn2Serve is also equipped to serve broader training needs. That includes: Extensive HR, Ethics, and Compliance training, including sexual harassment courses tailored to your state and active shooter training General business skills for your managers, including courses for onboarding, employee retention, and HR topics aimed at fair hiring practices Required safety topics, like HazCom/chemical safety and OSHA (even OSHA 10, for jurisdictions where its mandatory for hospitality businesses) ISO quality management courses for large national enterprises The extent of the catalog creates a holistic training solution for many situations. Criteria Learn2Serve ServSafe Dedicated Enterprise Support Bulk-Friendly Options Some Provides an LMS? Ports to Your LMS? User Management Limited In-Depth Reporting Limited Uptime 99.9% No Data HR Compliance Training Full catalog Sexual Harassment + Discrimination only General Business Training Full catalog Safety Compliance Training Full Catalog Other Available Training Quality Management, UST, and much more ServSafe, on the other hand, focuses entirely on the training needs of restaurants and bars. Beyond food safety and alcohol service, they offer a couple of courses on common HR topics: sexual harassment prevention and unconscious bias training. The nice thing is that theyre tailored to the restaurant industry. ServSafe also offers modest user management and reporting capabilities that will serve the needs of many small businesses. Learn2Serve vs ServSafe: Bottom Line Truthfully, the best food safety training is the one that meets local regulations for your job. If your employer or state prefers a particular certification provider, you should go with that. But if youre the decision-maker, you can factor in how youd like your training delivered and what other needs you might have. You should choose ServSafe if: In-person or mixed instruction is important to you You want or need training endorsed by the National Restaurant Association You should choose Learn2Serve if: You want to gain certification (including CFPM) 100% online Youre working outside the restaurant industry but still need food safety or alcohol seller training You need business-level solutions You need more than just food and beverage training If youre looking for training as an individual, check out the courses Learn2Serve offers in your state. What is a Goal Out of Reach but in Sight
What is a Goal Out of Reach but in Sight What is a Goal? Out of Reach but in Sight A few years ago, I gave a speech to the Western Golf Association Evans Scholar Foundation. That speech, which addressed leadership and goal-accomplishing tactics, later become a book called Out of Reach but in Sight: Using Goals to Achieve Your Impossible. Im releasing portions of that speech, starting several minutes in, as a series of blog posts so you can enjoy some of the content. If youre interested in seeing the material in its entirety, check out Out of Reach but in Sight: Using Goals to Achieve Your Impossible or go to my YouTube Channel to listen to the pre-recorded audio. â¦Why do we live? What do we live for? It was a Wednesday during the last week of June (2013). It was late in the evening. I hadnât yet conceptualized what I wanted to say to you. I had the question Iâd ask myself as the basis for this talk, but I didnât have the answer. Like a lot of people, when you have something on your mind and you go to sleep, you tend to dream about it. Before I tell you the dream, Iâd like to explain what I do professionally so the dream makes sense. Iâm a professional recruiter. I founded a recruitment firm approximately ten years ago called milewalk. Just like the name sounds, I walked a mile in your shoes. To explain at a very high level, companies large and small need to find employees to work at their companies. They need to find people for jobs. Most companies are not equipped to find all the employees they need to make their companies work effectively. Sometimes they encounter situations where they either need a lot of people or they need a person with a very unique skillset. To help them find the right people, they engage a professional recruitment firm to recruit those individuals on their behalf. Thatâs what we do. We help companies find people for their jobs. We also get to work with the employees. We find them. We interview them. We evaluate them to see if they and the companies are a good fit for one another. Thatâs one of the best parts about what we doâ"helping both parties improve themselves. Itâs fantastic, and I really enjoy it. Now letâs get back to my dream. I went to sleep and found myself in the house I grew up as a child. My parents lived in this particular house for more than twenty years. It was a fantastic house filled with lots of love. There was Mom, Dad, and me, and then came along my two sisters and brother. Even my grandmother lived with us for a long time. We had a dining room and living room that were right next to each other. They formed a really big great room. We had big parties there. I was in the dream. I was standing in the dining room. Sitting at the dining room table were a bunch of people. I noticed at one end of the table was the big boss from one of the companies we were representing (hiring on behalf of). Around the rest of the table were people he worked with. All of these people were my clients. At the other end of the table was my job candidate. This was the potential employee we recruited. We were trying to get the two of them to join each other. They were talking. I couldnât really make out what they were saying. You know how dreams are. In walked my mother. She came from the kitchen, which was next to the dining room. She was carrying two big volumesâ"scrapbooks she had prepared for me as a gift for my fortieth birthday a number of years ago. This part is actually real. The two big volumes were in her hands. They covered the first twenty years and the second twenty years. There they were in all their glory. In them were pictures of everything you could imagine from my life. I was born. There were pictures. I went to kindergarten. There were pictures. There was football, baseball, eighth-grade graduation, high school, college, jobs, and the companies I started. There were more pictures. It was the most amazing gift Iâve ever gotten in my life. She decided she wanted to show everybody these books. She started to tap my clients on the shoulders. I thought, Oh no! Mom! Please. No. No. It didnât matter. She gave me the big wave of her hand that said, âAndrew, Iâm your mother. I get to do whatever I want. Iâm showing these pictures.â I was thinking, Please, not the ones with the bad hair and the braces too! Around the table she went. She tapped everyone on the shoulder. She flipped through the books. Finally, when she was done, she left. They all got up. They started to move toward the door. I raced over. I wanted to shake everybodyâs hand on the way out. The big boss was last. I asked, âWell, howâd it go?â He replied, âWe liked your guy. We want to hire him.â âThatâs great!â âYeah, thatâs not even the best part.â âWhatâs the best part?â I asked. âWe all really loved getting to see the pictures of your life,â he answered. âWhyâs that?â âBecause that is what life is all about. What you do every day matters far more than what you do once in a while.â Itâs the day to day. Itâs not so much the major milestones that really make you. Itâs like that in everything, from your relationships to school to work. Straight As do not happen because youâre a whiz. They require smart studying or perhaps efficient studying. They require analysis and evaluation and so on and so forth. Promotions at work do not happen because you completed one project successfully. Smart, hard work every day is what matters. Now I want to go back to the question. Why do we live? Well, Iâll tell you what I live for. I have two goals. Theyâre so simple I donât have to write them down. The first one is I want to be happy. I want to have fun in my life. I know what makes me happy, but Iâve also done quite a bit of soul searching. Thatâs number one. The second is I want to make you the best you you can be. I donât want to help make you the you he thinks you should be or she thinks you should be or your parents think you should be or your teachers think you should be or, even worse, society thinks you should beâ"just the best you you want to be. Nobody can be better at being you than you, so I want to make you the best you. For me, that goes for everyone who passes me in life. I want to make others better for having met me. I also want to reach out to people Iâve not yet met and make them better. Thatâs what Iâm working on now. So there you have my two goals. There are two more things I want to tell you. They are probably the most important things Iâm going to say in the next half hour. If you donât remember anything I say for the next half hour except these two things, youâll be able to figure the rest of life out. Just remember these two things. Iâll say them a few times because they are a central theme. N-u-m-b-e-r oneâ"the most important thing Iâm going to say: âA goal, to me, is nothing more than a vehicle to enhance your enjoyment of something you love. If it doesnât do that, itâs not worth setting.â Number twoâ"the second most important thing Iâm going to say: âThe actual attainment of the goal is far less important than the positive impact working toward that goal will have on your life.â If you can keep those two thoughts in mind, youâll be OK. I think youâll get what you want out of life if you look at things that way. Up next in this series: Where Do Goals Come From? So, you want to work in professional sports - Copeland Coaching
So, you want to work in professional sports I help each of my clients to construct their ideal dream job. It refines the target of what kind of job theyre searching for. Often, their dream job can be very different from their current job. This is especially true for those who either want to ramp their career into high gear, or those who are searching for more meaning at work. As sports seasons ramp up, an industry that comes up often is: PROFESSIONAL SPORTS. Dont get me wrong my clients arent aspiring to be the next Zach Randolph or Serena Williams. They want to work in professional sports. They aspire to join the sales, marketing, logistics, or management team. This week, I had the opportunity to interview David E. Cooley, Director of Alumni Career Resources at UCLA in Los Angeles, CA. I also had the chance to speak with someone who started their career in sales and marketing with the Memphis Grizzlies. One theme came through in both conversations. If youre interested in professional sports, chances are good youll have to work your way up. In professional sports, the staff is often promoted internally. In other words, many of the members of senior leadership started out as interns or in other entry level positions. This can be good for those just starting out, like recent college graduates. Unfortunately though, if youre further along in your career, this could create challenges especially if you have commits like a mortgage, a family, or a comfortable lifestyle. The second theme that came through both conversations was this. Positions in professional sports often pay less than their equivalent positions in other industries. Why would this be? Well, first, if the sports organization is built on the work your way up sort of model, they may want you to put in your time before rolling out the big bucks. Second, the interest level in professional sports is very high. For an organization that has more job candidates than they could ever want, why would they need to pay a competitive salary? They dont. My message today is not to discourage you from working in professional sports. Its to highlight some of the challenges that you will most likely face if you pursue this highly desired industry. If you arent in the beginning of your career, but you still want to go after a career in sports, here are a few tips: Get an Education: If you can take sports management classes, or other coursework related to professional sports, consider it. The fact that youre a sports fan and watch many games is not enough. Network in Sports: Network yourself into the organization. Look for opportunities to get to know existing staff. It will give you a chance to discuss your transferable skills, and show how your current job applies to a future in sports. Be flexible on location: Professional sports are a little like the military. If you want to join, you may have to move (and travel) quite a lot. Dont expect to end up at the local franchise in your city. Reduce Expenses: Explore ways to reduce your cost of living. Can you live on less for a while to enable you try a new job in sports? You may have to. Work Your Way Up: Consider taking a lower level job than your current position. (Note: I would rarely recommend this tactic in any other industry.) Is there an internship or part time job available? I recently met a NBA salesperson who relocated to a new city for a part-time job just to get his foot in the door. He was eventually promoted to full time and is loving it. Now, thats commitment! Whatever you decide to do, walk in with your eyes open to the pros and cons. Any new industry will have them. You need to evaluate whether not the drawbacks fit into your overall plan. And, for even more tips on getting your foot in the door with professional sports, watch for my upcoming podcast with David E. Cooley. I hope these tips have helped you. Visit CopelandCoaching.com to find more tips to improve your job search. If I can be of assistance to you, dont hesitate to reach out to me here. I made this for the exceptionally innovative, overly shrewd, multi-enthusiastic lady I've been working with like gangbusters for a long time. She's the person who communicates in my language, and who leaves with the best outcomes from our work. Egotistically, she's likewise the person who permits me to adore what I do on the grounds that truly, on the off chance that I don't move over to my customer calls and messages, at that point why the hell am I doing this? ?? In the event that you don't feel like this depicts you (jettison your sense of self realize you wouldn't portray yourself as overly shrewd or even exceptionally imaginative, however I wager the peeps who realize you well do), Dream To Done ain't for you. You need to dress appropriately in a working, highly professional environment. For this, one must understand the dress culture of the company and the extent to which a dress code should be followed. One must not only wear what is mentioned by the dress code of the company, but one must also dress according to his or her position. For example, an HR Manager and a software developer can have variety and diversity in the dressing style. Also, it is important to remember a dress code can either overshadow your personality and efficiency or it can make a long-lasting impression that gives forth a pleasant feeling, all in all.Grooming is a very essential part of any workplace. Coming along with being grounded, humble, down to earth, one must not be blown away by overconfidence. You might have more knowledge than a lot of people in a particular domain, but always believe that there is a better man than you in that room who might be keeping quiet. Also, knowledge has no ending and one might know a lot but not necessarily everything or sufficient. There is always a huge scope of improvement in them that should keep you grounded no matter what comes. On one hand, if you do not acquire enough confidence, you would fail to understand your capabilities and will always undermine yourself, will always be held back from reaching your goal and achieving your true potential. On the other hand, being overconfident will lead us to have a very disillusioned âstar sicknessâ that can probably ruin our career more than anything â" presupposing and filling out our mind with the thought that we are solely satisfied, and absolutely at peace with the current situation, current position , stopping our growth without knowledge.10. Ask For HelpThere is no shame in asking for help contrary to many peopleâs opinions. It is not at all a sign of weakness, going against the common peopleâs thoughts. The secret of success quite much likes in asking the right person the right question.People like an inquisitive soul who puts into dedication in their work. Questions arise from the fact that you must be toiling with work and hence anything unsolvable leads to your questions.Find that person in your organization or your team who can help you or is willing to lend in a helping hand. Sometimes, even the most capable souls are incapable of doing so.It is easy for fresher to assume that talking to the seniors or bosses may not be the best option or the best idea that is possible; however, believe me, that is probably not the best course of action one can follow. To put it briefly, everyone needs and wants to feel recognized, wants to be felt like they are important, and counts for the overall development of the organization. Honestly, establishing good rapport creates an environment with deep mutual understanding, needed for any newbie at work. Thus, it is appropriate steps following these steps would make you recognized as a genuinely great employee at your workplace. Once you start your career on a positive note and build a good rapport in your current company, it can lead to better opportunities in future, and you are good to look forward to an amazing experience right ahead of you.TAGSHacks of Being a Star EmployeeStar Employee in Your New Office

Career Management Can Be Fun!
Career Management Can Be Fun! I remember going to lunch with John. He was an executive in transition and it seemed he scheduled about five meals a day with people. He didnt eat much in any of them but he loved networking with people and realized that once you get someone at a restaurant, you typically have their undivided attention for a good thirty to sixty minutes. One of the most memorable things he said to me is This is so much fun! Heres a guy who had his executive-level income on pause, and he was having FUN! It would be more fun to do this with a salary and benefits, I thought. But yeah, I was right there with him. Even as an introvert I was having fun. I loved meeting with people, understanding them and what they needed, and figuring out how I could give and serve and add value to them. With no strings attached. With a simple belief that if I helped people, they would maybe help me. If they didnt, no big deal. It felt great to help others. I will say that the job search is not necessarily fun. There are too many emotions attached, and there is too much on the line. Waiting to hear back from employers, hoping that your network pulls through for you, wondering if youre networking enough, and all of the tiny things that mere mortals dont have to worry about, like a typo on a resume. Too. Much. Stress. Once you let go of thinking that everything depends on every thing you do or say or see, and you relax a bit, then seriously, start enjoying the job search. Enjoy meeting new people. Enjoy setting your own schedule. Enjoy the freedom to take care of your health. Enjoy not commuting. Enjoy this time because soon enough it will end. And youll be too busy and tired to network, and be healthy, and have time to yourself. This is YOUR time! Career Management Can Be Fun! I remember going to lunch with John. 7 Kinds of On-the-Job Training to Look for in a Job
7 Kinds of On-the-Job Training to Look for in a Job Your job doesnât just come with a list of responsibilities â" it should have a few benefits for you, too. Aside from healthcare and vacation time, though, there should also be an opportunity to train on the job. That way, you can do better work for your company and gain the valuable skills you need to move forward in your career. So, as you look for a new position, keep your eye out for opportunities to learn while youâre working. Here are seven types of training that will help you in your quest to be the best employee you can be. Mentorship Youâre not the boss â" yet. Signing up for a mentorship with one of your superiors will show you the skills and attitude required to reach the level to which you aspire. Chances are good youâll hone a few of your pre-existing traits along the way. Your mentor will likely flourish through your partnership, too. If they can train you to work as they do, you might even be considered when itâs time to fill their role in the future. While you wait for that upgrade, youâll experience additional benefits of your mentorship. Those who have participated in such programs report higher levels of job satisfaction and a stronger sense of employee engagement. Job Rotation Although you work in a specific department, youâll undoubtedly have to interact with employees in different areas. But without any experience in that field, you might not be a sympathetic and helpful employee when an issue or delay arises. Job rotation makes everyone better because it gives employees a chance to see how other departments function. Afterward, youâll experience the responsibilities that other people have and vice-versa, thus creating a more understanding environment. And, of course, you can carry this attitude with you into any new position in the future. Virtual Training Not all training can â" or has to â" take place in-person. Instead, your company might offer virtual training programs that allow you to log on and learn more when you have free time. The opportunities for virtual training vary, so donât count out your industryâs potential for an online course or skills boost. Simulations can be used to make complicated equipment, systems and areas into a virtual training course. Even if your company doesnât necessarily provide online resources, you can find some on your own. Everything from webinars to full-on training courses exist online. Ask if your employer will pay for you to cover any fees associated with this skill-building elective. Book Club You might be involved in a book club outside of work or otherwise aware of how these types of groups work. Just in case youâre not: your company can gather its employees to read and discuss a book each month. The piece they choose could provide readers with work-related skills and a group conversation afterward could reinforce the learning point contained within the literature. If there isnât a book club, you could pioneer one in the workplace, too. Coaching Coaching has some similarities with a mentorship, but ultimately it puts you on a different path to skill-building. Your coach will help you build a plan for self-improvement. They might also create an overarching plan for everyone in your department or company. Depending on the size of the business, there might be an on-staff coach or they might bring in an outsider to lead the charge. Brown Bag Lunches Fortunately, this type of on-the-job training has nothing to do with your culinary skills â" or lack thereof. Instead, brown bag lunches bring employees together over their midday meal to learn something together. Speakers might come from within the company to share news about an important project. Or, your employer might bring an outsider in to speak on a relatable topic or teach a new skill. Either way, youâre sure to deepen your understanding of your industry while eating your lunch as you would anyway. Itâs a great way to multitask. Lateral Moves If you find yourself feeling stagnant in your job, ask your manager if there are any opportunities for a lateral move. You wonât get a promotion or earn more money. Instead, youâll be taking on a new job on the same level as yours is now. Youâll get to develop new skills and deepen your knowledge of your industry, but youâll also be doing something different than you expected. It might end up being the catalyst you need to keep growing and learning. Get What You Deserve Of course, all of this possibility for on-the-job training starts with the company for which you will work. As such, make a point in your next interview to ask about these types of training opportunities â" if theyâre unavailable, you might want to continue your search for the right position. If youâre already gainfully employed, find ways to get even more from your job. Ask your bosses and other managers how you can improve your skills while you work or if there are any opportunities for training. Soon, youâll be an even greater resource to your colleagues, which will put you in good stead for promotions, raises and more. But most importantly, youâll be more confident in your skills and ready to conquer whatever the job throws at you.

Youre In Control of Your Brain - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career
Youre In Control of Your Brain - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career Powerful Lessons from Two Four-Year Olds My grandniece had a rough day at home. Sheâd soiled the heat vents in her room, roughed up her little sisterâs toys, spoke some new and inappropriate words, all resulting in extended âtime outâ in her room. At dinner in between conversation with her parents about the day, she said, âEven though you made me spend time in my room for what I did, you didnât break my day.â You didnât break my day is a perfect approach up for all of us. Bad things routinely happen day in and day out, but itâs important to make sure mistakes you made or reactions from others about those mistakes donât break your day. My friend, Elizabethâs grand daughter taught us both another lesson. She was jealous that her older brother ended up with more toys from the store than she got that day. It was her brotherâs birthday but she didnât see the justification for his bigger pile compared to hers. She was a little mopey and Elizabeth asked why and she answered that she was jealous. Elizabeth reminded her it was his birthday, and pointed out how many things she did get, and that being jealous was not a good thing to do, even using a bible reference. The granddaughter was silent for a long time and when Elizabeth checked on her to see her attitude after explaining about the destructiveness of her jealous feelings, her granddaughter looked at her with a smile, âMimi, I fought it off.â Thatâs what you and I need to do too when people at work give us cause to be jealous, angry, or any other negative emotion, âfight it offâ and âdonât let it break your day. Like they say, âout of the mouths of babesââ¦.
